Journal 5

Imagine you were in 2050, when you can stand in front of the future “you” and talk to him/her, what would you say to him/her first? Time traveling is a fascinating and compelling genre of stories and films appealing to people of all ages, and I’m no exception for that. I’m a big movie buff; therefore, every time I see time-traveling scenes, I’m always wondering what I’m going to be like and what would happen if I met with my future self?

Thirty years later, I hope my future self would be someone who lives her life passionately just the same as I do now. And she doesn’t need to make a fortune, rather just enough amount of money to support her life. Moreover, seemly insurmountable obstacles might wear her out from time to time, but she will still love and enjoy her life no matter what happens. Furthermore, she’s still trying hard to be satisfied with every circumstance she encounters. Her satisfaction does not necessarily connect with her being in a “happy” mood all the time, but rather she tries hard to embrace all the disappointing moments. She would rather feel the pain and embrace the growth coming along with frustration or any kind of negative mood than ask herself to be strong and happy all the time. The biggest challenge in her life probably will be losing her passion due to the pressure of life and thus living every day just the same. I live by a motto, “Rather be dead than cool.” That means if we don’t live with passion, there are no differences between being alive and dead. I’m sure that both of us would believe in that, for we hold the belief that living is not the same as breathing, it’s enjoying and pursuing.

The first thing I would ask her is “Do you like who you are?” Loving ourselves always comes first when we talk about living. As for advice from a more mature self, she might suggest I never forget to open my heart to embrace new things and new people even when we’re struggling with learning how to protect ourselves. Still being a person with ambition, enthusiasm and love would absolutely be the best gift for both of us.
